These days many a student is developing a diploma on the wall and thinking about entering the world of work. The only thing that does not count on when they started their associates or bachelors, and this is the state of the labor market.
Thanks to the recession, the former student is not only going against his fellow graduates, but a large number of people who were sacked from their jobs. It is no great secret that this is one of the worst economies in decades. However, this does not mean that the work is not available.
Then again, there’s the old saying that when the going gets tough, the tough get going. As it happens, the job site Monster.com has just released a series of recommendations to help the graduate to become one of the new recruits. Here’s what they have to say
Think Broadband – A good example is only because it has a degree in nursing, not just limit yourself to hospitals, clinics and other health institutions. Nurses are also employed in public schools, cruise lines and resorts, and police headquarters. Brainstorm! Then apply what you thought against a search engine like Google. This way you can as much as quadruple the number of prospects you can work.
Do some research on the Information Society – While the curriculum should be pretty set, doing some research on your target company can make your cover letter in line with what your company has targeted interested in. highlight any parts of your training, experience or other assets you have that will make you attractive to a recruiter, even if that meant a counselor in a summer camp. This shows you know how to handle children.
Network – You really should have started this while still in school, but it is never too late. If you go to a professional society meeting, get business cards can be many. If a family member in your profession, do not be afraid to ask their advice. Building a book of business cards, and then maintain regular contact with these people. Now that you are at work, it’s time to start making phone calls and letters. Your contact may not be hiring, but could then refers to someone who might be alone. This is another name for the network.
Keep a positive attitude – Everyone realizes these are tough times. The difference between people who are successful and that’s never happened to those you leave them. Recruiters can sense the negativity before entering their office, and this is a major strike against the recruit. In other words, if the news is bad on the tube, turn it off and get to writing more introductory and follow-up letters. A positive attitude produces positive results.
